POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

State Legislative Affairs Director


Position:  The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) seeks a State Legislative Affairs Director for its Washington, DC office.  Working with a network of NACDL members, affiliate organizations, and allies, the Director will promote state-level criminal justice policy initiatives.  General responsibilities include: supporting and training network members; providing direct assistance to state reform initiatives; coordinating and coalition-building among national and state organizations; conference and meeting organizing; lobbying and testifying before policy-making bodies; facilitating the sharing of information and resources among advocates in different states; media relations; and developing policy materials and reports.

Qualifications:  Qualified applicants will have experience advocating criminal justice policy issues, preferably at the state level; extensive knowledge of criminal justice issues; the ability to work collaboratively; and strong writing skills.  Law degree preferred but not required.  Some travel required.  Convenient downtown location.  Salary and benefits competitive with legal non-profits.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Director of Outreach and Education

 

Seeking applicants. Fifty percent of the job is specific to the Criminal Justice System, funded by a federal grant. The other half of the position requires outreach in the four Tennessee law schools. 

 

Position requires (1) experience or training in alcohol and chemical dependency, intervention, mental health issues, and public speaking; (2) an understanding of, or experience with, 12-step programs; and (3) LCSW, LPC or other comparable counseling licensure and/or a licensed attorney with experience practicing law and, if applicable, a minimum of five consecutive years of recovery.

 

Applicant must be flexible, organized, empathetic, an initiator, and a team player. Position requires travel throughout Tennessee with base operation in Nashville.  Criminal Defense experience ideal.
